Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1850, Robert Louis Stevenson longed for two things: freedom and the leisure to immerse himself in another world. He wrote essays and travelogues, as well as his legendary adventure stories populated by extraordinary characters whose names sent shivers down the spines of readers worldwide: Long John Silver, Captain Flint, Dr. Jekyll, and Mr. Hyde. The Montblanc Writers Edition Homage to Robert Louis Stevenson is dedicated to this immensely creative storyteller. Many decorative details of this edition are inspired by the novel “Treasure Island”. The overall shape of the writing instrument, combined with the rings on the cone, recreates the effect of a historical extendable telescope. The barrel of black precious resin is decorated with engraved crosses, including a larger “X” similar to one used to mark the location of a treasure on a map. The cap of the Writers Edition is adorned with vertical lines reminiscent of the planks of the schooner “Hispaniola” and a traditional treasure chest. Behind the platinum-coated clip, the lines converge to create a compass rose, while the clip replicates the shape of a cleat, to which a ship's rigging is fastened. The top of the cap is crowned with the Montblanc emblem, decorated with the pirate symbol – a skull and crossbones – raised in the center. The cap ring is adorned with Stevenson’s engraved signature and the publication date of his first work, “The Pentland Rising”, in 1866. The birth and death years of Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) are engraved on the cap.
