Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1850, Robert Louis Stevenson longed for two things: the freedom and leisure to plunge into another world. He wrote essays and travelogues, as well as his legendary adventure stories populated by extraordinary characters, whose names sent shivers down the spines of readers around the world: Long John Silver, Captain Flint, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The Montblanc Writers Edition Homage to Robert Louis Stevenson is dedicated to this supremely creative storyteller. Many of the decorative details in this edition are inspired by the novel “Treasure Island”. The overall shape of the writing instrument, together with the rings on the cone, recreates the effect of a historical extendable telescope. The barrel made of black precious resin is decorated with engraved crosses, including a larger “X” similar to the one used to mark the position of a treasure on a map. The Writers Edition cap is adorned with vertical lines reminiscent of the planks of the schooner “Hispaniola” and a traditional treasure chest. Behind the platinum-coated clip, the lines converge to create a compass rose, while the clip itself reproduces the shape of a cleat, to which the ship’s shrouds are fastened. The top of the cap is crowned with the Montblanc emblem, decorated with the pirate symbol - a skull and crossbones - raised in the centre. The cap ring is adorned with Stevenson's engraved signature and the publication date of his first work, “The Pentland Rising”, in 1866. The birth and death years of Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) are engraved on the cap.
